THE FLÂNEURS
Meet Ilse Cornelissens, Co-owner of Graanmarkt 13, Antwerp
In the Theaterbuurt district of Antwerp, on a tree-lined courtyard, in a pretty townhouse, is Graanmarkt 13, the chicest shopping and dining destination in town. Founded by Ilse Cornelissens and Tim Van Geloven, the concept store combines a restaurant, a boutique, a gallery, and a flat available to rent: ‘A place where everyone would feel at home’; And it is every aesthete’s dream. We sit down with Isle to discuss her favorite addresses, her interior design inspiration, and her style philosophy.

How would you describe your apartment in one word?
A warm and welcoming home away from home in the heart of Antwerp.
What makes a home in one word?
People.
How would you describe your taste in one word?Sober/timeless
Define bad taste.
As long as everything fits well and is balanced, anything can be good. Even over the top, kitsch interiors can be wonderful if you do it well and with personality.
Where do you find your inspiration for interior design?During our travels around the world, visiting places such as Santa Clara in Lisbon and Convento di Santa Maria di Constantinopoli in Puglia.
How do you choose a brand to join Graanmarkt 13?
I always trust my gut feeling. I like true stories of craftsmanship, and I have a weakness for precious natural materials.
Do you ever disagree on a brand or a new designer?
My husband and I rarely disagree on brands. We share the same values and same sense of style. Of course we both have our guilty pleasures, but in general we always agree.
Describe your philosophy when it comes to decoration or fashion.
We wish to support slow fashion and a new kind of luxury. We encourage buying less, but better.
