Tips from the Experts

Personalisation is key. From art, to photos, to pieces of furniture handed down through the generations, it is important to ensure your home feels lived in by you and doesn’t feel like a show home. When we finish designing a house for a client, it isn’t until their accessories, pictures, art and photos arrive that the house becomes their home. When we design a home we always think about how they will live in it so we design spaces for them to do their make up or wind up their watches, for the kids to create a mess, for clothes to be washed and ironed, all the every day things need to be considered and factored into the design

Most kitchens are created from the same basic layout so we often use a basic, inexpensive carcass and then elevate it with bespoke doors and panels to fit into any awkward spaces and to give the look and feel of a fully bespoke kitchen. You wouldn’t notice the difference from a fully bespoke kitchen

We always start with the property. Our clients will come to us with an idea of the look and feel they want but the biggest inspiration will be the history of the property. Our favourite design movement is Arts and Crafts and we are lucky to have completed 3 large Arts and Crafts properties in the last 5 years. Arts and Crafts is a great period to work with as an inspirational starting point. You can use any of the amazing back catalogue of designs from Voysey, to William Morris, to Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Materials are natural and hand finished. Much as the Arts and Crafts movement was an aesthetic movement against mass-manufactured furniture and decor of the 19th century, so we are seeing backlash against mass production and towards hand finishing using natural materials.
