A house becomes a home when it’s filled with pieces that tell a story and hold personal memories

Tips from the Experts

A house becomes a home when it’s filled with pieces that tell a story and hold personal memories. Antique finds, like beautiful oil paintings sourced from various places that feel thoughtfully curated within the space, or a set of decorative plates picked up from a Parisian market each tell a story. These items add character and add interest to a room, making it feel lived-in and inviting. Personal touches, such as family photos or the comforting scent of a favourite candle, create warmth and familiarity. By layering your home with meaningful objects and memories, you transform it into a space that is uniquely yours.

Simple touches like wallpapering a room—whether it’s a bedroom or cosy snug—instantly add charm with colour and pattern. A fresh coat of paint can breathe new life into kitchen cabinets, offering a cost-effective alternative to a full overhaul. Finding a fabric you love could be the missing piece to truly transform a space. Whether used for cushions, a charming headboard, or a delightful blind, these soft furnishings often require far less fabric than expected, yet make a noticeable impact. These thoughtful changes come together to create a warm, inviting space that feels both timeless and full of character.

Living in Bath, I draw inspiration from the city’s historic character and architectural details. I love textiles, and they play a significant role in our design process, guiding our creative direction through textures and patterns! Drawing on classical proportions and the English charm of my surroundings, I blend this with bold prints like chintz and animal prints to infuse colour and character. This creates a sense of whimsy while preserving the home’s heritage and timeless beauty, resulting in spaces that feel both elegant and uniquely personal.
