Boasting horizontal stripes of nu orange, purple pop and vintage pink stripe, our SAFIRI range of colourful baskets are woven in three different sizes for use all over the home. These colourful sisal baskets make beautiful home storage and desk tidies, toy baskets and bathroom baskets - and they can be used as both small and large planters for all your favourite houseplants.

The craftswomen behind these SAFIRI striped woven baskets all learned to weave sisal from their mothers and grandmothers, and work within a small weaving collective in rural Kenya. The Basket Room visit this group as often as they can, and enjoy a strong bond with their chairlady, Madam Dorcas. Where once these weavers would travel regularly to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets at markets, The Basket Room now places regular orders with them, enabling these women to work from home. 

Basket production takes place primarily during the dry seasons, since most of these weavers are from farming communities who rely on farming (and rainfall) to sustain their families.
