Serapi rugs are among the rarest and most sought-after Persian carpets. They were originally woven in the mountainous regions of northwestern Persia at the beginning of the 20th century. Closely related to Heriz rugs in design, Serapi rugs typically feature finer knotting and larger-scale patterns. They are characterized by soft pastel tones and gained particular popularity in the United States, where they were often used in federal buildings such as the White House. The name "Serapi" is derived from the nearby town of Serab, where weavers brought their finished pieces to market, leading to the term being associated with these distinctive rugs.
