About the artisans: sister*hood believes in the potential of design & handicrafts to unlock economic opportunities for female artisans around the world. This particular product was handmade by the wonderful artisans of Vaoka in Antananarivo, Madagascar. The crochet design itself originates from Janet Petousis, designer based in Cape Town South Africa. The female artisans in Madagascar work with natural fibers and materials that grow in their area and practice different weaving crafts but are famously known & specialized in crocheting raffia grass for fashion items like handbags, jewelry & belts.
