truly believe that a conversation between the old and the new in one’s house is always more interesting. It should also be filled with pieces you have lovingly collected over time.

Tips from the Experts

It’s advisable to take a moment of pause before pressing the purchase button for a large piece. Take a beat to consider how it sits in the context of the entire space. While I am as guilty of an impulsive purchase as the next person, it helps to have a sense of the overall look and feel in mind first.

I love the clean lines, textural depth and generous use of parchment of French architect and designer Paul Dupré-Lafon. There is a timeless elegance to his work, which I very much admire.

I would love to work with straw marquetry whether on a piece of bespoke furniture or as part of the architectural detailing – it exudes a wonderful warmth, lustre and decadence.
