The very thing for picking up flowers at the local market and days out on holiday, the beautiful KANN bolga basket shopper is the perfect antidote to wasteful plastic shopping bags. With a bold pink rim against un-dyed grass, this woven basket will bring a shout of Ghanaian colour and style to your every day.

Each shopping basket is a work of art - taking up to three days to weave by hand - and is made from robust veta vera grass which produces baskets of wonderful balance and strength. This indigenous grass is hand-rolled and dyed in boiling water before it is ready to be woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana.

Most weavers in the Northern Ghana cooperative are farmers, though relying on a season’s rainfall makes for unpredictable living. Basket weaving – one of the oldest crafts known to man – has become a source of alternative income for these communities in the dry seasons, helping families to meet their basic living costs more comfortably. When you buy one of our beautiful woven baskets you become a part of this important story.
