ARE YOU A TRADE PROFESSIONAL?

Mulberry purple with a pop of red on its rim, the JUKUMU woven bread basket can be used for rolls, sliced loaves or fruit, avocados or cutlery and napkins. Bring some ethical style to the table with this colourful woven tableware.

The female artisans behind these natural woven baskets all learned to weave baskets from their mothers and grandmothers, and practise this traditional Kenyan craft within a small weaving group in rural Kenya. The Basket room visits this talented group as often as possible, and has built a strong bond with the weavers and their chairlady, Madam Dorcas, over the years. Where once these weavers would undertake the long journey to Nairobi to sell their work at markets, the Basket room now places regular orders with them, enabling these women to work safely from home.

Basket weaving is portable, sociable and flexible work: these women weave in snippets of time throughout the day and the week, fitting in this reliable work around childcare and domestic duties. Weaving work supplements incomes made from farming, which can be unpredictable in the dry seasons.

Material: SISAL & BRANDED LEATHER TAB

Dimensions (approx): 20cm W x 8cm H / 7" W x 3" H

Please note, as this is a handmade product, dimensions & colour may vary from those shown in the photographs.
