ARE YOU A TRADE PROFESSIONAL?

This contemporary cream sculpture in the shape of an egg timer is handmade from stoneware. Within the piece are two hollows that hold 24 karat gold lustre spheres or ‘golden eggs’. As an alternative to the typical sand used in an egg timer, they appear to pour through from the top to bottom. The piece explores the societal and biological pressure women feel in their thirties to have children, evoking the feeling of time running out. The hourglass shape of the piece is a reference to the female form. It is often associated with beauty and attractiveness, but also with connotations related to youth, fertility, and reproductive potential.

Created by Miyelle at her studio in Hackney, London, this unique piece is part of her latest ceramic collection “Evolving Femininity” which explores, honours and challenges notions of womanhood. The pieces in the collection reflect biological themes such as the cyclical transformation of our menstrual cycle, aging and fertility. While also focussing on the emotional and lifestyle changes we navigate as our lives progress.

The piece is made from textured stoneware and the body is unglazed so you can admire the light cream colour of the clay. The golden eggs are glazed with a satin and transparent glaze and painted with 24 karat gold lustre with some visible brush strokes. There is a softness and imperfection attributed to the handmade nature of the piece with visible textural markings from the clay and making process.
