Tips from the Experts
My dream material or product to work with
I love working with natural materials—wood, stone, and natural fabrics. No two pieces of wood or stone are the same; each has its own unique grain and veins. We embrace the natural imperfections of every slab of stone or piece of timber. It reminds us that nothing is meant to be identical or flawless, and that the passage of time adds richness and personality to objects. Every scratch, crack, and patina becomes part of a material’s history, turning a simple slab of wood or stone into something intimate, lived-in, and soulful.
My favourite hack as an interior designer
Put affordable art or even a simple postcard print in a beautiful bespoke frame with a mount that accentuates the colours, it turns something ordinary into something extraordinary.
The one thing I always tell my clients
You can take a basic outfit and make it amazing with the right accessories—and the same goes for a home. People often obsess over the big decisions: flooring, wall color, wallpaper, the sofa. Sure, those matter, but it’s the layers that make a space sing. A gorgeous lamp, a cozy rug, art that sparks conversation, interesting objects, plants, candles, books—these are the details that give a room personality. Without them, a space just feels unfinished. In the end, it’s the client’s own belongings, beautifully styled, that turn a house into a home. Yes the "knick knacks" are important!
Trend I love and one I avoid
We generally avoid following trends—unless it’s something genuinely classic, suits the space, and will stand the test of time. One thing we’ve loved long before it became “trendy” is colour drenching. Whether it works depends on the space itself. Think of the ceiling as the fifth wall: does it have amazing architectural detail you want to showcase? Then go for a contrasting colour. Or, if the ceiling is otherwise boring, colour drenching can transform it into something bold and enveloping. Either way, leaving a ceiling plain white? Honestly, I think that’s a sin.
