Tips from the Experts

Exceptional modern and contemporary fine art. I enjoy using art as the impetus and inspiration for an entire design, allowing it to influence the palette, furnishings, materials, and mood of a space. My perspective is shaped not only by my degree in art history and early museum experience, but also by my continuing involvement in the contemporary art world as a collector, museum supporter, and active participant in exhibitions, art fairs, galleries, and artist communities. I love integrating meaningful artwork so it feels essential to the composition rather than added as a finishing touch. The right piece can give a home emotional depth, cultural resonance, and a truly distinctive identity. I love working with collectors.

Mix truly high-end pieces with well-chosen mid-priced finds. A room does not need every item to be expensive to feel luxurious. I encourage clients to devote more of the budget to the pieces they use every day, such as a beautifully made, exceptionally comfortable sofa. Items that are primarily decorative can often be sourced more economically. Thoughtful editing and knowing where quality matters most are what make the entire room feel elevated.

Never skimp on skilled labor. The best craftspeople know the value of their work, and their expertise is worth the investment. A great installer can make a modestly priced material look exceptional, while poor installation can ruin even the most exquisite product. If the budget is tight, I would rather find a beautiful material at a better price than compromise on the person installing it.

I love that homes are becoming more thoughtful, healthy and supportive of how people actually live. Good design should enhance well-being, simplify daily routines and provide comfort, not merely look beautiful. I avoid rooms designed primarily for social media, where every recognizable trend is included but the result feels impersonal and impractical. A home should serve the people living in it, not perform for an audience.
