A central point at Studio van Aken is to try and maintain heritage as much as possible and try to give it a modern twist. Nowadays you see so many taking out stunning old elements because something else is “in trend”. By mixing old antique items with designer brands & lucky finds Studio van Aken tries to find that perfect mix, aligned with your preferences. I’m not here to do something extremely unique, I’m here to make you feel at home.

Meet The Designer
Jessica van Aken, the founder of Studio van Aken found her passion for design from working as a fashion stylist. After years of dressing people she noticed friends and family would also ask her for their home so the shift into interior design grew very organic. Nowadays she sees a space as a body and tries to see what complements it. Not everything suits everybody, the same goes for a space so that is what she mainly looks at.

I love working with mirrors. Not only do they create more space, they create more light especially when placed across from a window. Whether it’s a modern or antique type of mirror, it suits every interior style.

Tips from the Experts
My favourite hack as an interior designer
Curtains are extremely expansive and I notice that clients are not always aware about the amount of meters material they need. Therefore, when you have a fabric you like but it becomes too expensive, only use the material for the ends ( horizontal at the bottom or vertical on the inside & add a complementing cheaper neutral fabric. I've done it tons of times.
How to make a big impact on a small budget?
Not something very new but adding vintage & second hand items… it does take up a lot of time to find the perfect items for yourself or a client but matter of fact is you can get incredible high quality items on a small budget that are very hard to find otherwise.
The one thing I always tell my clients
Please stay away from too many trend items & materials and also add them more in accessories that are easier to change. Don't get me wrong I also love specific trends but when there are too many I notice clients are not as happy in the long run. A couch is more difficult to change than a vase so yes I do love trends but go easy on them.
