The Autumn Edit: Our Favourite Lamp Trends

Every colour in your home was, in some sense, chosen under a particular light, usually a bright spring morning, or the flattering neutrality of a paint shop. Autumn changes the terms entirely. Daylight arrives lower, warmer and for far fewer hours, and from late October the lamps are doing most of the work; a green that read as crisp and botanical in May can turn flat and faintly murky by November, while a blush wall that felt sweet all summer looks suddenly tired under the wrong bulb.

Which is precisely why we’re so smitten with this season’s lamps. The loveliest of them treat light as colour so that the rooms around them feel bold but controlled, layered rather than lit from a single ceiling rose. It is, we’d argue, the most transformative autumn decorating decision you can make, and it rarely requires a paintbrush; a single well-chosen statement lampshades will often do more than a fresh coat ever could.

Restraint is out; fringing is back, and it has never looked more at home than on a dark autumn evening.
