This is a wooden lamp with a backstory – which you’d expect, given its unusual toy soldier base. It was handcrafted by iconic French designer Jacques Adnet in the 1950s, but it’s a rare piece from his collection. He later built his career on playful designs in simple Art Deco styles, and moved on to large-scale commission projects, like redecorating the President’s private apartment at the Elysée Palace. But he concepted this characterful soldier lamp before he made it big, while working at a department store in Paris.
This iconic table lamp’s made from hand-painted wood, with a fitting for one bulb inside the soldier’s translucent hat. It’s the perfect lighting piece for a child’s bedroom, or quirky living rooms with similar antique accessories.
