The biggest mistake made when arranging sofa throws is the tuck technique. Avoid covering the entire back of your sofa with sofa throws that are neatly tucked in – after all, you chose your sofa for a reason. When styling sofa throws, instead use them to elevate your furniture rather than hide it. Keep sofa throws off the back of your sofa, and use them to accessorise your sofa’s arms and seats. A draped look is inviting, but the trick to getting it right is to not overthink it, that way you’ll achieve the effortless look. Neatly folded throws look chic when hung from the arm or seat of your sofa, too. Or, consider investing in a storage basket to keep throws out of sight until you need them.
People add sofa throws to their homes for lots of reasons, but sofa throws have three main functions:
1) Sofa throws protect your sofa from sunlight, pets, and wear and tear.
2) Sofa throws add warmth and cosiness, functioning as a blanket during colder months.
3) Sofa throws add colour, texture, dimension and style to your room – draped sofa throws create a relaxed, lived-in look. They’re an affordable way to switch up your style.
What colour rug you choose for under your grey sofa depends a little on your existing colour scheme, but a grey rug is your safest bet – it’s a neutral tone. Choose a grey rug in a slightly darker or lighter shade than your grey sofa to avoid a one dimensional look. That way, your sofa will still stand out. A darker grey rug is a more durable option as it’ll be able to withstand dirt and heavy foot traffic better than a light grey rug
If you’ve chosen a grey sofa, you’re probably a fan of neutral tones. So we recommend you keep your cushions neutral too. Top your grey sofa with grey cushions – either patterned grey cushions in a similar tone, or shades of grey that are slightly lighter or darker than your sofa. That way your grey cushions will stand out enough to make a statement, but won’t distract from your grey sofa the way coloured cushions would.
A white carpet is a slick interior design feature – it creates a modern living room that’s still inviting, and goes with every living room colour trend. However, white carpets will get dirty easier than darker colours. To keep your white carpet in a good condition for longer, make sure you remove your shoes before walking across it, and consider adding a coloured or neutral rug or runner to protect the busier areas. If you have children (or pets), you may want to hold off getting a white carpet until they’re older.
They key to effectively decorating with patterned rugs is to play with the textures, colours and patterns already in your room. If your other furnishings are plain, a patterned rug with a large, bold print will add interest without creating a chaotic look. For modern rooms, a geometric or monochrome patterned rug will continue your interior decor theme. Or for bohemian or Moroccan interior styles, a colourful Moroccan patterned rug – in the tones already colouring your room – will enhance your existing aesthetic.

Defining a statement mirror depends on the context of your room – a smaller mirror will make a bigger impact in a smaller room. But in general, a statement mirror is either oversized, or has an elaborate frame, like carved wood or polished metal. Unusually shaped designs can also act as a statement mirror – oval or round styles stand out and contrast the sharp angles of most modern architecture. You can also make a statement mirror out of smaller, plain mirrors by arranging contrasting styles in a gallery wall layout.
When it comes to maximising storage in your bedroom, there are a few options. Built in wardrobes, that are custom to your space, will make sure no inch is wasted. Or, to maximise clothing storage while keeping your existing wardrobe, a chest of drawers is a functional addition. Choose bedside tables with drawers to maximise storage for your beauty and personal items. And opt for an ottoman, or ottoman bed, to maximise storage for your bed linen and spare sheets.
Because white furniture is light and airy in appearance, a white rug is the best choice. While coloured rugs might distract your eye away from your statement furniture, drowning it in your space, a white rug will frame your white furniture, adding emphasis without overpowering it. It’ll also help to continue your minimal, contemporary decor style, but if you’re concerned that your room might look too stark, a patterned white rug, with elements of grey or taupe, is another great option.
Vintage style decor follows trends and fashion features of previous years, typically anywhere from the 1930s-1980s is considered to be part of the vintage style movement. While all of these eras vary, in general, vintage style puts emphasis on detail and excess, unlike pared-back contemporary decor looks. Typical vintage style elements include plush fabrics like velvet and tapestry, fringing, upholstery, dark wood and earthy tonal colours like red, orange and beige. When it comes to recreating the vintage style in your home, more is more – the minimal look came much later.

A standard dinnerware set comes with 4 of each of the following: a deep bowl, a side plate and a dinner plate – this is referred to as a 12 piece dinnerware set. An 18 piece dinnerware set has 6 of each item, perfect for big families or entertaining. While both dinnerware set options cover most eating situations, for fancier affairs you might want to opt for a more elaborate dinnerware set which includes salad bowls and other variations.
