Cool Hotels to Beat the Summer Heat
Summer is here, and it’s hot! hot! hot! We’re soaking up the sun and sweating like there’s no tomorrow. And without air conditioning for most of us (those of you in the US and other climate-controlled countries are lucky!), we are in desperate need of a cool escape.
We always love a hotel, no matter the time of year, but we have to admit, there’s something seriously seductive about fresh sheets and fresher air when summer rolls around. Check out our summer hit list for the hottest hotels to cool down quick. Sounds pretty cool, don’t you think?
For some brisk mountain air:
Guys, the mountains are not just for winter. Trust us. While Alpine peaks are beautiful in winter, they’re practically irresistible in summer. Book a room at the stunning Chetzeron nestled in craggy cliffs of Crans Montana. Even if you break a little sweat going on a sweet summer hike, you can cool off in the pool with an icy drink in hand as the sun goes down.
For soothing city tones:
We never thought we’d say this, but we think we’re craving a northern European summer. Super long days and an occasional temperature dip makes for the perfect combination if you ask us. Check-in at Graanmarkt 13 in Antwerp for a perfectly balmy summer getaway. Enjoy gentle breezes, cool-toned architecture and even cooler shops and restaurants.
For a welcome drizzle:
Honestly, there’s nothing more refreshing in summer than a misty morning or light drizzle. It takes the heat out of the air and wakes up the plants and us. And if you’re in the market for a bit of summer rain, there’s nowhere better than Seattle. The hottest season is cooler than cool in the Pacific Northwest, particularly when you’ve got a room at the Ace Hotel Seattle. Use it as your home base as you head out for cooling hikes, steaming cups of coffee and enviably chilled afternoons.
For some good old British Summer Time:
Sure, BST can have us thinking of sunburns and strawberries submerged in Eton Mess. But in truth, we’ve always found a true British summer to be brisk and bracing in the best way possible. Ditch the city heat in favour of a cool, country escape. Head out to the Ox Barn at Thyme in the Cotswolds for gloriously grey skies, muddy walks and maybe even an evening spent nestled by the fire. Whew! We’re feeling a chill already – time to break out that hot water bottle.
For a real season swap:
Really not a fan of summer? Why not head down under to flip things on their heads and ditch the season completely? For those of you who are aching for sweater weather like there’s no tomorrow (or like fall’s not just around the corner) pack your knitwear and jet off to Melbourne. Furry blankets and sheepskin chairs abound at the delightfully whacky Hotel Adelphi. When you cosy up here for a week or two, all memories of sunburn, sweat and swimming pools will fade away. Goodbye, summer. Hello, frostbite!
